Emberline Saga puts writing first, which is rare on mobile. The party members bicker, grow, and occasionally break your heart, and the turn-based combat gives you time to enjoy it all. Each fight is a small puzzle of positioning and cooldowns.
I appreciated that grinding is optional. If you read the skill descriptions and play thoughtfully, you can clear most chapters without farming. The auto-battle exists for the boring encounters, so the interesting ones stay hands-on.
It's a big download and the menus can be busy, but the payoff is a proper adventure you can carry in your pocket.
